Public Lodging Establishments (Hotels, Motels, and Similar Businesses)
Under Florida law, public lodging establishments regulated by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) must provide human trafficking awareness training to certain employees.
The training requirement applies to employees who:
Perform housekeeping duties in rental units, or
Work at the front desk or reception area where guests check in or check out.
This requirement also applies to employees who occasionally perform these duties or are cross-trained to perform these functions, even if those responsibilities are not their primary job assignment. For example, an employee who normally works in another department but periodically assists with front desk check-in/check-out duties or performs housekeeping services in rental units must also complete the required training.
Employers must provide the required training to current employees and new employees in these positions within 60 days after beginning employment. Employees must also provide a signed and dated acknowledgment confirming completion of the training.
Employers should identify all employees who perform or may perform these covered duties and maintain documentation demonstrating compliance.
